Question and Answers
New to Army life. My husband is stationed at Ft Belvoir, VA. I'm from small-town Indiana, and this place is CRAZY! Is anyone else here, or have you been here? Will I ever like it here? lol

Hi Deana. The Northern Virginia area can be very intimidating if you are not used to a crowded metro area, but you will make it :) I used to work in Washington D.C. and lived in Woodbridge, so the commute and traffic were familiar things to me. I learned to rely on that Metro! Alexandria is nice, it's sort of close to everything although I'm not sure how it is right outside of Belvoir. My husband was at Fort Myer during his time there. In fact we met in Georgetown! But at least from Alexandriaclo you have close access to the metro for downtown DC and all the monuments, Smithsonian, a bunch of great shopping and dining, as well as a lot of employment opportunity. I disliked the crowds and high cost of living when I was there, but now that I live in a smaller area I miss good old Northern VA sometimes and sometimes long for that faster pace. Enjoy it while you are there! I promise you will like it more once you get out & about, see the sites, and adapt to the errrrr....colorful....driving of the locals. If you get into DC there is a great Japanese restaurant on 17th St relatively close to the White House/National Mall area. I miss that place!! Also a great Thai place on K Street if you are over that way. I'll attach the info.
