Hey there! A move to Colorado, how exciting!! From what I understand, Fort Carson is beautiful with tons of stuff to do and lots of support facilities for military families. Have you already arranged your household packing and shipping? You will need to go to your Relocation Office where you are now (assuming you are at another Army post) and start that process. Typically you need to attend a Relocation Briefing, but they will set you up with that.
The first thing I would do in your situation is request a Welcome Packet from Carson. Go to this link:
http://community.carson.army.mil/ACS/programs_relocationReadi.html and click on the Welcome Packet Request link.
This packet should tell you everything about vehicle registration, give you a map of the installation, and about services available. The Newcomers Guide is also online in digital format on this site.
Are you going to live on post or off post? Here is the link to on-post housing: http://www.carson.army.mil/RCI/index.htm
If you will be living off post, the area is pretty comparable price-wise compared to other places and BAH seems to be in line with local home prices and rents. Check your Fort Carson BAH rates here: http://www.bah-rates.com/
PCS'ing can seem overwhelming, but the military has done a pretty good job of setting up services to make it easy for you. You probably have a million questions, so feel free to start posting them on here as you think of things and I'm sure you will get some feedback. Good luck!
Hi Amy
Good luck with your move. I don't live there but here is a helpful link that you can check out.
Have a great day.
