If you're on the peninsula, where's the closest kid friendly ski resort?

Hey Eric. If your kids are pretty young (e.g. 3 - 7), the best bet might be Donner Ski Ranch. I'm not sure that it's the closest, but it's one of the best for beginners. They have fantastic schools for kids just beginning (and one decent face for you to enjoy). http://www.donnerskiranch.com/ If you can get up during the week, I think they have kids tickets for as little $18.
If they're a little older or more experienced I would hit Dodge Ridge. It's probably the closest decent place to you. Personally, I'm a big fan of Dodge Ridge and it's just the right distance that you can make a day trip out of it. Here's a link to their kids packages: http://www.dodgeridge.com/site/children.php
