Question and Answers

Looking for a kid friendly restaurant near San Mateo. Something nice but nothing fancy.

My Aunt is coming in to town and we'd like to go out to dinner with the little man in tow (two years old). Any suggestions on a nice, kid friendly restaurant in the area? We're not picky about the type of food. Actually would be great to try a new place. I was thinking maybe Jack's Prime?

Jack's Prime is a great spot. A couple of our favorites are Mimi's Cafe and BJ's - both over at Bridgepointe (Target). BJ's tends to have a bit of a wait after 6pm, though.

Most places are kid friendly; try Kincaids on the bay in Burlingame, Donato Enoteca in Redwood City, Il Fornaio in Burlingame, Vans (overlooking the peninsula) in Belmont, or drive into the city and take your aunt to House of Prime Rib on Van Ness (make reservations), Tommaso's on Kearny in the city is also fun. Good Luck Rob and have fun.

Two spots to suggest, Rob.
L'il Biscuit House at 55 - 37th Avenue, San Mateo for fried chicken, BBQ and Biscuits. 372-9898 It is just off of El Camino. I think Jack's Prime is good, but a little pricey for a simple hamburger. Jeffrey's in downtown San Mateo is as good or better for less money.

For white table cloth, I recommend La Lanterna, 180 West 25th Ave. 341-8877.
Good fish, veal and pasta, not super expensive. Fine for kids and Aunt Suzie. I suggest a reservation for Friday or Saturday, but not necessary on other days. Street parking, or around the corner in the church parking lot.

I try to avoid the chain restaurants.

Good luck, Rob.

I think you would enjoy Macaroni Grill next to Hillsdale shopping center.

Amicis in San Mateo is great with kids.
